The thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) is a combination of a very precise balance with an oven enabling heating up to 1500°C. The device measures the decomposition temperature and its course. It can be carried out in the atmosphere of air or inert gas, most often nitrogen. Very accurate, repeatable measurement.
This device is rarely found in commercial laboratories, but its usefulness is invaluable.
Application:
It enables, among others determination of the percentage of water, volatile matter, ash, the parameter of the so-called fixed carbon. When combined with FTIR, it is possible to identify the gases released during heating.
