The advantage of the fluorescence detector is its high sensitivity to selective groups of compounds at the ~ fg level.
Using a specific wavelength in the UV-Vis range, the analytes are excited and then emit a light signal (fluorescence). The intensity of this emitted light is recorded to quantify the concentration of the analyte.
The disadvantage of this highly sensitive detector is that not all compounds show fluorescence.
Application:
In the laboratory, we use this detector to determine PAHs and various types of specific compounds.
