When was the last time you serviced the vacuum pump of your LC-MS system, whether it’s from Waters, Thermo, Shimadzu, or Agilent?
In our case, we hadn’t serviced our pump since its purchase 8 years ago. And what happened? The bearing started to overheat due to lack of lubrication, causing the pump to occasionally shut down.
Why did this happen? The turbo pump has a special lubricating insert that needs to be replaced every 2-3 years.
If your bearing hasn’t been damaged yet, consider replacing the lubricating insert (costs around 50 EUR).
